The Perfect Gallon of Sweet Tea

Perfect Sweet Tea

Makes you thirsty, doesn't it? I'll tell you the best technique I have found for making the most delicious and
refreshing gallon of sweet tea. Not too sweet, thank you very much, just right!

You will need:

A gallon container in which to make and store your tea in the refrigerator. I don't make tea in the sun when I have refrigerator access. "Things" ferment very quickly when using sugar if left warm for too long, hint hint.

2/3 cup sugar
2 Luzianne family size tea bags
1 Luzianne family size Green tea bag

We prefer Luzianne tea over any other brand. I was a Lipton Girl my whole life, but once I tried Luzianne consistently, I found that I could truly taste the difference. Luzianne tea is for people who truly like the taste of tea.

2 Celestial Seasonings Country Peach Passion tea bags
You can use any flavor you wish. This is my personal favorite. I don't like the Blueberry, it tastes really weird to me.

The biggest tip I can give you regarding iced tea is that you must keep your tea pitcher clean. Yes, it means you need to take apart the rubber spigot thingy and clean it. Not every time, but at least every third or fourth time you use it. This keeps the mold and mildew away. Sugar helps everything grow, remember.

Okay, back to making tea. Fill your gallon container about halfway up the side with warm (not hot) water. Add sugar and peach (or other) flavored tea bags and stir with wooden spoon to dissolve sugar. Stop stirring and add cooler water almost to the top, leaving room for the other tea bags.

Separate the sides of the Luzianne tea bags by sticking your fingers in the middle. They should have an "O" shape now. Gather the tags together and lay the tea bags, on their sides, into the top of your container, piling the strings on top with the tags to the back. You don't want these big boys hanging right in front of your spigot. Oh, and make sure that the bulk of the tag strings make it into the container. You want those babies to reach as far down as they can toward the bottom.

Place container in the refrigerator and let tea steep for as long as you can wait. The tea will take on color very quickly due to the warm-water start and the separating of the tea bags. And since the flavored bags got a good head-start in the warm water, and are most likely floating near the bottom, the tea will taste good almost from the moment you put it in the fridge.

Make and keep lots of this tea around throughout the year. Iced tea is a refreshing drink any time! And with so much less sugar than soda, or even juice, it won't pack on extra calories that none of us need anyway. If you drink a lot of soda, I would advise you to switch to this iced tea for a while and see how much weight you lose.

Also, how much money do you think you would save? You can freeze tea in water bottles and use them to keep your made-at-home lunch cool. I'm just saying...

Aunt Brenda

I am Brenda Shoop and I am Aunt Bytes' very own resident nurse. I hold a bachelors in nursing from The University of South Alabama. I worked in health care for 20 years before "abandoning the ship." I have experience in emergency, trauma, pediatrics, internal medicine, cardiology, and holistic care. I am striving to learn as much as I can about how to treat the body so it can heal itself, in the most natural ways possible.

I am connected to The Great Universal Energy Source in the most wonderful and magical way. I see miracles every single day because I have learned how to change my perspective on life in general. We are all connected to the Same Source, and as we become enlightened, we change the course of events around us to reflect our deeper commitment, whether that commitment is to Love, Peace, Mercy, Greed, Lust, or Selfishness.

What I'm trying to say is that whatever drama is going on around you in your life right now is just a symptom of something you still need to deal with. If you change your patterns, the patterns of those around you will change as well. Much in the same way that if the Earth were to shift position, it would affect all the satellites around it, as well as the moon.

So, don't be afraid to shift positions now and again. Just try a new one on for size and see how it fits. You can always change your mind later, you know.
